I asked George this. He says they're not hysterical [overly excited, nervous, etc] anymore so when you touch them they really feel it.

Re: What's the best thing about women over 39?
Fri, January 21, 2005 - 12:06 PMPerhaps we should ask the wise old Ben Franklin:
"But if you will not take this Counsel, and persist in thinking a Commerce with the Sex inevitable, then I repeat my former Advice, that in all your Amours you should prefer old Women to young ones. You call this a Paradox, and demand my Reasons. They are these:
1. Because as they have more Knowledge of the World and their Minds are better stor'd with Observations, their Conversation is more improving and more lastingly agreable.
2. Because when Women cease to be handsome, the study to be good. To maintain their Influence over Men, they supply the Dimunition of Beauty by the Augmentation of Utility. They learn to do 1000 Services small and great, and are the most tender and useful of all Friends when you are sick. Thus they continue amiable. And hence there is hardly such thing to be found as an old Woman who is not a good Woman.
3. Because there is no hazard of Children, which irregularly produc'd may be attended with much Inconvenience.
4. Because thro' more Experience, they are more prudent and discreet in conducting and Intrigue to prevent Suspicion. The Commerce with them is therefore safer with regard to your Reputation. And with regard to theirs, if the Affair should happen to be known, considerate People might be rather inclin'd to excuse an old Woman who would kindly take care of a young Man, form his Manners by her good Counsels, and prevent his ruining his Health and Fortune among mercenary Prostitutes.
5. Because in every animal that walks upright, the Deficiency of the Fluids that fill the Muscles appears first in the highest Part: the Face first grows lank and wrinkled; then the Neck; then the Breast and Arms; the lower Parts continuing to the last as plump as ever: So that covering all above with a Basket, and regarding only what is below the Girdle, it is impossible of two Women to know an old from a young one. And as in the dark all Cats are grey, the Pleasure of corporal Enjoyment with an Old Woman is at least equal, and frequently superior, every Knack being by Practice capable of Improvement.
6. Because the Sin is less. The debauching of a Virgin may be her Ruin, and make her for Life unhappy.
7. Because the Compunction is less. The having made a young Girl miserable may give you frequent bitter Reflections; none of which can attend the making an old Woman happy.
8. They are so grateful!!"
I have to agree - women in the 40's - not what I would call old at all - are much better lovers than girls in their 20s. -

Hmmm . . . didn't know that Ben discovered electricity AND the "double-bagger" train of thought!! The horny old coot!
When I asked my husband what the best thing about a woman over 40 was, he replied "she knows how to please a man" - which is pretty much the same thing Ben was saying.

You have got to be kidding me. I was SO much more agreeable when I was younger, now that I'm old, you'd better not fuck with me! (and yes, I'm much, much better in bed than I was back then).
"8. They are so grateful!!"
And again, you've got to be kidding me.
I could probably agree with the rest of it though. More interesting, less insane, all of that.....

Re: What's the best thing about women over 39?
Fri, January 21, 2005 - 1:28 PMFunny you should mention hyster, the greek and latin root word for womb. Perhaps when the time for making babies draws to a close women tend to calm down some.
Anyway, I love women over 39 for their wisdom and awareness of what feels good to themselves as well as to their man.

Re: What's the best thing about women over 39?
Tue, January 25, 2005 - 10:20 PM8. They are so grateful!!"
Y'know, that's the second time I have heard a man say that older women are "grateful." I don't think I've ever known a woman to be grateful for sex (beyond the happy healthy joy people usually experience), but I *have* known a number of men (40s and younger) who've begged for it.... :) -

Wed, January 26, 2005 - 4:04 AMBelieve me, back when Franklin wrote this, women were grateful - not nearly as many opportunities existed then as now. -

Re: What's the best thing about women over 39?
Wed, January 26, 2005 - 4:06 PMwell, grateful if a man would marry them and provide for them, yeah I'm sure they were, given that without a man to take care of them they were (usually) pretty thoroughly hosed.
Grateful for sex? I have my doubts...... -

Re: What's the best thing about women over 39?
Thu, January 27, 2005 - 4:20 PMI suppose I should qualify this...
Sure, I'm grateful that I have a caring thoughtful lover, but then, I would be grateful for that at any age.
I just bristle at the idea that old women (or fat women, or any type of woman who doesn't look like a 19 year old model) will be grateful that anybody deigns to have sex with them. -

Re: What's the best thing about women over 39?
Sun, February 13, 2005 - 2:46 AMHi Meabh,
There are thare some men that appreciate that beauty, true beauty resides in the spirit of a woman. Age is no arbitor either way, other than maturity - which brings it's own benefits.
Women of any age should have more respect for themselves that to be grateful - and men that think they should - ignore 'em - dorks!

Re: What's the best thing about women over 39?
Wed, January 26, 2005 - 4:44 PMI dunno...I've been married for 16 years, and *I'm* grateful to get sex from my hubby <lol>. Maybe I should be slipping him Rufies ; ).
A woman that I've been seeing of late is 48, and the first older woman I've been with. It's a different power dynamic, I think (yes, a big topic), and cool to bounce things off of someone who has had even more life experience than I. My last long-term girlfirend was 6 years younger, so now I get to see the other side a bit. It's a new adventure, and really fascinating.
She also makes me feel great about getting older, as she is still strikingly beautiful...gives me hope that I might also look great after 8 more years.

Re: What's the best thing about women over 39?
Fri, January 28, 2005 - 9:41 AMWhat I personally like about women "of a certain age" is that they are more expansive in their views and acceptance of themselves and others. They've established themselves so you know they can make things happen.
They're also really juicy emotionally. They know what they're feeling, why they're feeling it, and they're not afraid to feel more.
They're courageous because they're willing to fail because they've done it before and survived.
Women "of a certain age" , when they laugh from their belly, there's so much in that laugh. Like everything else about them, it's so much more than amusement. It's knowing, it's a pain that's been healed, it's ecstasy remembered and present. These are the moments when I am awed and grateful to be and be with a woman "of a certain age". -

Re: What's the best thing about women over 39?
Sat, February 12, 2005 - 10:20 PMI agree with especially your last two points--at least I know those to be true of me, personally. (And you described the laugh in a way that I never understood before but makes perfect sense.) I think, overall, it's a greater, deeper happiness; maybe also coming from knowing more about what matters to oneself and what matters most.

Re: What's the best thing about women over 39?
Fri, April 15, 2005 - 12:55 PMOceana and Scott have it: you have wisdom and knowledge to make better choices, the confidence to do so, your health is still good so you can, and the funds to enjoy yourself. Now, when I make love, or share with friends, or laugh, it's 100%. This is a rich, wonderful age.

Re: What's the best thing about women over 39?
Sun, February 20, 2005 - 11:15 AMNews from the front . . . .
Has anyone noticed all the press lately about the success of actresses over 40? At the Golden Globes, a reporter askes Anjelica Huston what wisdom 40+ y.o. women have the younger women have yet to learn. Her response, "Wouldn't you just like to know."
Also this morning, I was reading an article about the French author Mireille Guiliano who wrote French Women Don't Get Fat: The Secret of Eating for Pleasure. She makes a telling comment on American culture. "I was dining in Paris with some male friends and this woman walked in. She was in her mid 60's, very stylish, not flashy, but wearing a classic suit. And my colleagues all went, wow. That would never happen in this country and its such a pity. America is youth-obsessed."
In other news, yesterday I was leaving the bank, in this 30-something gorgeous guy says to me, "Can I open the door for you, young lady?" When you get to be a middle-aged woman, somebody calling you "young lady" is a treat, like some kind of appreciation for the beauty that is truly yours not someone else's you were trying to emulate. Later, that evening, in a flash of something remembered, I exclaimed to George, "You know, this is what I always dreamed of, to be a middle-aged women and still have the mojo!"

Re: What's the best thing about women over 39?
Tue, April 12, 2005 - 9:43 PMElderly people were interview on what their favorite time of life is. Their answers were mostly from 50-70. You know what you want, how to get it, you basically have figured out how to have your life just the way you want it. Past 70, some people started to have health issues. Personally, it feels good to slow down. You can savor each stroke and enjoy it. -

physicality
Fri, April 15, 2005 - 6:50 PMyeah, the ben franklin stuff is a mixed bag re: a bit of sexism and "backhanded compliments". one that i bristled at:
>> Because when Women cease to be handsome, the study to be good. To maintain their Influence over Men, they supply the Dimunition of Beauty by the Augmentation of Utility. <<
yikes! so since you're getting a little "doggy" there babe, better be sure to make yourself useful, so as to maintain that influence "over" men! ~ snort ~
and actually, although i've been having *so* many mixed feelings about my 40's/aging, i distinctly remember looking in the mirror one day and *finally* recognizing that i am more beautiful/"handsome" in my 40's than i've ever been! it's not only been a self-esteem surprise, but has made me actutely aware of the astounding beauty of women as they age. in my eyes, the standards of what makes men handsome as they age have now been transferring over to women too - wrinkles, silver hair, relaxed edges around the muscles, etc.
what a delight! -
